To be successful at affiliate marketing takes a lot of motivation.
The reasons that people are in the business of affiliate marketing vary greatly – however mine is for the enjoyment and passion for my work. I enjoy the research involved in finding new affiliate products, testing out different niches and markets – but that hasn’t always been the way. When I started out I was motivated by the idea of a good income. I know you are thinking that money could be enough to keep motivation going – but it hasn’t been enough for me. Here are the things that keep me motivated every day:
Product selection.
Every day I keep my eyes open for new products that I find exciting, interesting and that are still likely to make a profit. Many informational and software products have a high profit margin for vendors, so they are happy to share a large percentage of the profits with their affiliates.
Identifying needs.
One of the challenges that affiliate marketing presents, and in fact, any business – is to find out what a market wants and needs. Many online marketers fail because they don’t know where to start in finding out what a market is looking for. By thinking through the ideal sales page and optimising it, the affiliate marketer is highly likely to hit the nail on the head with consumers. All advertising and marketing needs to be split tested to get to the best results, however, by investing time and effort up front – you will save time and be more likely to achieve some sales early on.
Marketing skills.
Over the years I have honed my marketing skills. I’ve invested time in reading sales copy writing books and advertising guides. This is part of what I enjoy about affiliate marketing – the opportunity to use what I’ve learned in my own marketing. I’ve also kept my finger on the pulse of current trends and methods, such as social media, search engine optimisation and article marketing.
Persistence.
Even when I don’t feel motivated – I will still sit down and put a few hours in. Successful affiliate marketing is dependent on you taking massive action. Just because you don’t feel like doing it won’t get you the extra sale. If I feel stuck, then I will pick a small 5 minute job to start with and then will just keep going until I’ve got a tick next to all the tasks on my list. My persistence has really paid off even though at times I’ve found the going tough.
Affiliate marketing can be tough, but without finding out what motivates you, it will be a game that you won’t win. Make your plan and then push yourself through the tough days and just keep on going – before you know it you’ll have travelled a long distance from the first step. Good luck and I’m going to be looking for you in the winners circle.
